Mid-Autumn Celebration Dinner

The Mid-Autumn Celebration (中秋节) Dinner is one of the few MUST occasion that is considered important, as a matter of fact, even non-chinese also join in the fun with all the tanglung festivals and mooncake eating.

My dad gave a directive that all of us must go home and have dinner together and this time around, I'm armed with a camera to shoot all the food that was placed before me. LOL.

I'm not going to comment about the food but just to show you what I had. If you're wondering how the food taste, just let me say that I was the first to the dining table and the last to leave.

My mom commented that Fishes this time around is more expensive than chicken and pork. I say let's cut down on the fish!

I know the focus is out for the vegetable, I was trembling with hunger and didn't use flash in all my shots.

A chinese dinner is never complete without a good bowl of soup. In our family, a standard bowl of soup per person is the same as those served at restaurant for 3 - 4 people.

The one dish that rules them all, the fried chicken. My mom's style, a favorite of all her children and grandchildren. This is what kept me on the table while everyone's finished. Gosh, I'm hungry for those fried chicken now.

Pork Noodle (OUG)

Had a meeting at OUG recently and after the meeting, decide to hop over to this Restaurant in front of the wet market for lunch. This place can give the Subang's pork noodle a run for their money. Only disadvantage this place have is it's stuffiness. The place like all chinese restaurant is not that properly ventilated unlike the air-conditioned Subang restaurant.


It took them about 5 minutes to prepare my bowl of noodle. So that's the good thing, I don't have to wait half an hour for my food.


The bad thing is, it took me some time to fish out all those vegetables that I asked them not to put in.


But they made up for it with a good portion of porks.

Hakka Rang Restaurant


A week prior to my sister's wedding, both families from the groom and bride' side gathered together to go for a nice lunch together. The place is known at Hakka Rang Restaurant located at Kota Damansara.


The furnishing of the restaurant is quite old school with wooden tables and chairs, even the tea sets are old school. Food wise, we're talking about Hakka dishes, one of my favourite.


For example, these deep fried pork, a hakka specialty. Even though I'm not a Hakka, I was raised by my Godparents which are Hakka and has since acquired some of their taste for food.


'Toufu pok" with fish paste. Very filling as we get more fish paste than the tofu.


I forgot what dish this is, but it is quite nice but not really my taste. LOL.


Curry Fish head. The curry isn't too spicy so I had quite a few bowls.


and it's never complete without some vegetables. Right?


and to end the whole list of food that was served was the Kampung chicken. Price wise, this place are quite reasonable. Truly worth a re-visit whenever I crave for Hakka food again.

Seni Seni Cafe & Restaurant

 

A good buddy of mine (his name's Mervin) from the good ol days of ASTRO recently opened a cafe in Bukit Damansara. The name of the Cafe is called Seni Seni and the ambience there is very comfortable. The people there are very friendly too, maybe because they know me as Mervin's friend.

Naturally, since he have a cafe so near to my office, it's only nice for me to go and patronize his shop once in a while. Right? The first time I was there, I had their Prawn Mee but at that time, I was in a hurry so I didn't snap any pictures.

 

This time around, with some time to spare before rushing off to my next appointment, I can sit down and snap some pictures of what I ate. And what I had is the Claypot Yee Mee.

 

This Claypot Yee Mee is quite nice IMHO because the soup is prepared just nice and thick the way I like it. And there's loads of meat and prawns in it too. Very nice....

Pork Noodle (Subang)

It's the first day of the fasting month so I'd like to take this opportunity to wish all the muslims that I know a SELAMAT BERPUASA.

Now that the formality is over, here is what this post is all about. For quite awhile, some friends at ShutterAsia has been poisoning me with the Pork Noodle restaurant in Subang as I've mentioned before that a couple of months back, the shop opposite Carrefour Subang was torn down and I've no idea where they've shifted to.

Well, guess what? I've found them! Right in the heart of Subang near the Taylor Business College. It was one of those days where I've to be out from the office the whole day and during lunch time, I had to drop by Subang, so what the heck... since I'm there, might as well stop over to grab a quick Pork Noodle bite. Right?


A friend that works near there joined me at lunch and these is what we ordered.

He ordered the Chee Cheong Fun, which looks nice but I've seen better and tasted better. :p

As for myself, I ordered a side dish, ROAST PORK! It was too tempting hanging there by the chicken rice stall so I just had to order it.

And the main dish itself, the Pork Noodle (Chi Yuk Fun!) that is so famous that people who lived in the Klang Valley knew of it (sort of). A big bowl cost RM5 but it was worth it. They give a healthy portion of minced pork and sliced pork, I don't like the intestines and liver so I told them to skip that. Even the noodles are quite a big portion.

To me, it's pointless to order the small bowl as its only 50cent cheaper which IMHO isn't worth it. And even if a person can't finish it, I'm sure the friends around would be happy to help clean up the bowl. Right?

Usually, the order takes about 30minutes to an hour for it to be served but if you're early or extremely lucky, you'd get yours within 10minutes. Mine arrived within 5minutes after I ordered which was a big surprise to me. Well, at the end of the day, All I can say is ... I'm a Happy Camper after finally curing this poison that some people constantly lure me with.

Shu Fun

A week ago, after meeting with a client, we decide to head out for lunch together. As we were at Old Klang Road, I suggested that we go to this kampung house near the post office to have the famous noodle.

I'm sure people who live all their lives in Petaling Jaya would know of this restaurant and the noodle I'm talking about.

What we ordered was the famous "Shu Fun", I tried to look for the english name on the Net but to no avail. If anyone would like to enlighten me with it's english name. Please write it in my comment box yah. :D

The other dish we ordered was the Hokkien Mee. I like mine wet and to me, this one was just perfect. I've tried at some places where it was just plain dry and I didn't like it.

What do I think of the food? Well, let's just say that both of us ordered the serving for 2 person EACH. So I'll leave it to you to think about how I feel about the above dishes.

Nonbei Restaurant

Nonbei loosely translated to Happy Drinking Place was the place we went when MiSsMyNx and I was in Desa Sri Hartamas.

The place is quite cozy with friendly staff always on hand to recommend you their chef's specialties. What we had that night includes...
Yaki Udon seafood - This is a dry noodle dish that I truly enjoyed, and for a person that doesn't fancy udons to tell you that it's nice really means something.

Ton Katsu or fried chicken fillet - It was recommended as a side dish to go with the udon.

Tsukune or chicken ball - It looks plain but the taste comes from the filling within. The sauce and the tinge of vege that's wrapped within gives it a very nice taste.

Asubara bacon or Asparagus Bacon - personally, this one taste weird to me, maybe because I don't really fancy asparagus.


Negima or chicken skewer - minced chicken meat, bbq-ed and served with soy sauce. To me, it looks and taste like a chicken sausage.


Kinoko no Balsamico Chizu Age aka Fried Mushroom - The last dish that we had, the mushroom was fried to just the right crunchy texture and it was served with it's own sause.

This is the first time I dipped fried mushrooms into a soy sauce laced with a tinge of wasabi and sesame seeds instead of tomato sauce.
All in all, we had a good dinner there with the owner and the bar manager entertaining us with the occasional chats whenever they are not busy running around serving food. Definitely worth another visit when I'm in that area again.
